Monday March 7th
9am-12:30pm
Convention Service Project
Once again, the Commission for Student Involvement will offer opportunities for ACPA Convention-goers to engage in the community through the annual Convention Service-Learning Project. This year, our intentional service is especially pertinent to the homeless in St Louis, Missouri. The service project represents our commitment to ACPA’s core values of outreach and advocacy, and challenges ACPA members to enact these values as well. We also are striving to align our vision with the Strategic Imperative for Social Justice and Decolonization, by identifying community partners that work extensively within communities of color, employ people of color, and by using the Imperative's framework as a lens for our post-service reflection. We invite you to show that "ACPA Acts, ACPA Cares" by signing up for this year's CSI Service Project with Gateway 180 Homeless Services (1000 N 19th St, St. Louis, MO) on Monday, March 7, 2022 between 10:00am - 12:00pm. This year, the group will be departing for the service project between 9-9:30 a.m., and returning to the Convention Center by 12:30 p.m. To register, please complete the following form.

ACC 261-262
Service-learning programs and requirements are difficult to design. On one hand, research suggests that effective and mutually beneficial service-learning arrangements involve frequent communication, long-term commitments, and a robust framework of reflection. Conversely, limited student interest and capacity and demands on faculty and staff time can result in short-term and low commitment partnerships. Utilizing Morton's (1995) framework of "thick" vs. "thin" service-learning, this session explores the challenges of developing high quality service-learning experiences that are actually feasible to implement
Primary Contact: Andrew Haggerty, [email protected]
All session listed are based on the program book on 2/25/2022. Please consult the convention platform for the most up to date information. All times are listed in Central Time.
